November, or Movember, is more than just growing a moustache, it's a critical reminder to focus on men's health. Statistically, men are less likely than women to visit the GP regularly, often delaying vital conversations about their physical and mental health.
At Jupiter Health Warnbro, we want to change that. Here are the three key areas of men's health we encourage you to prioritise this Movember:
1. The Physical Check-Up: Know Your Numbers
Delaying check-ups can mean missing early warning signs for some of the biggest threats to men’s health. If you haven't seen a doctor this year, schedule a General Men’s Check. This simple visit covers:
Cardiovascular Health: Checking blood pressure, cholesterol, and family history to assess your risk of heart disease.
Prostate Health: Discussing symptoms and screening options for prostate cancer, especially for men over 50 (or 40 with a family history).
Chronic Disease Screening: Getting tested for conditions like Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension, which are often manageable when caught early.
2. Take Control of Your Mental Health
Mental health is a huge part of Movember's mission, and it remains a vital conversation. Men often internalise stress, anxiety, or depression. Remember that seeking help is a sign of strength. Our GPs at Jupiter Health Warnbro are here to listen without judgement.
We can help you with initial assessments, develop a Mental Health Care Plan for subsidised sessions with a psychologist, or discuss other supportive treatment options. You don't need to wait for a crisis to talk to someone.
3. Talk About the Uncomfortable: Urology and Sexual Health
Issues like erectile dysfunction, urinary problems, or changes in testosterone levels are common, but rarely talked about. These symptoms can be indicators of deeper health problems, like heart disease or diabetes. Our GPs provide a safe, confidential space to discuss these issues. As a mixed billing practice, we offer bulk billing for eligible patients (under 16 and over 65 with a Concession card), and our reception staff can provide details on private fees. Addressing these concerns can significantly improve your quality of life and overall well-being.
Don’t put off that appointment. This Movember, commit to being proactive about your health.
